The WD project began in 2006 as a communication channel of the long-term urban research project “Re-collecting Cities/Re-collecting Time”. The WD editions are exposed in 8 wall displays of the ex-cinema venue of Croatian Cinematheque placed in downtown Zagreb. From 2010 on, WD have grown into a separate project on urban hypertextuality.
WD are a visible part of Shadow Casters constant research and reflection on the city, public and private space, urbanity, co-existence and identity.
Shadow Casters Wall Displays are equally addressed to random passers but also to the intentional readers: Wall Displays boxes are positioned in 8 location in the public space in the city of Zagreb.
This project is thematically focused on: the ephemerality of the everyday chain of events, micro and macro memory narratives linked to the area around the Wall Display boxes, transformation of the city, the questioning of the politics of remembrance, political acts and media presence in the public space.
Wall Displays are based upon docufictional approach to the listed thematic guidelines and they also develop hyper textual models of reading the city, alternative cartography, construction of the place of remembrance and tactics of constructing collectivity.
Wall Displays edition assumes integral author's concept within which every location out of 8 Wall Displays boxes is treated as a part of substantial whole.
This open call is open to visual and new media artists but also to researchers in Humanities (Ethnology, Sociology, Philosophy, Politology) as well as to interdisciplinary teams (Wall Display communicate equally through text and image). If the accepted proposition is based on the humanistic approach to the research of the city and candidate does not have background in design, the organisers will enable a collaboration with a designer.
This open call is also open to performance artist and the projects that rethink Wall Displays locations as a space for perfomative actions in the public sphere. In this case – Wall Displays edition is presented through the documentation of performed actions in the public space and are produced in collaboration with designer enabled by the organizers.
